Prostate gland health is not usually a cause of worry till the Age of about forty years. This is the period in life around which the men start to notice issues related to their prostate. Variety of tests has been developed to check the prostate gland health as it becomes a major health issue after the age of fifty for most men. The tests involve the usual urine, blood and stool tests that are done with the yearly physical checkup. For patients above the age of fifty a digital rectal examination is also performed with the physical to check on the prostate gland health. The test allows the doctor to identify any signs of prostate cancer which may directly affect the prostate gland health.

Another test to check the prostate gland health in men, especially over the age of fifty, is now given routinely. It is the prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test. This test is conducted annually to find the level of prostate specific antigen in the blood of the patient. The high levels of this substance may point to the presence of cancer in the patient. Since prostate cancer has a high cure rate when identified in the early stages these tests become imperative. Prostate gland health may also be checked by some other tests like the biopsy, ultrasound and cystoscopy. Doctors usually rely on a combination of these tests to determine the prostate gland health.
